Amateur (18 and Up): Production team is neither Student nor Pro.
Professional: Designation given to any production team containing even one member who (within the past 3 years) has earned 50% or more of their annual income as a media professional.
- Production team designations are based on crew not cast.
- Age or professional status of cast members has no bearing on team category unless cast member also participates as production crew.

Finish: Sunday, October 15, 2017 @ 6:00 PM
Screening: October 26, 2017 at 7 pm at the Kalamazoo 10
Anywhere! Assignments will be e-mailed at the Cinema 2880 start, and resulting videos are posted to YouTube, Vimeo, Dropbox or Google Drive before the 48 hours are up. Assignments can also be obtained at the Public Media Network (this may be helpful in terms of using/reserving PMN equipment and facilities). Videos (in DVD or file format) can also be “handed in” at the PMN front desk by the 6 PM Sunday deadline.
Each team is contacted via e-mail @ 6:00 PM, Friday, October 13, with their production assignment. Teams will be assigned a: Genre, Character, Prop, Line of Dialogue, and Location.
- These production elements must be incorporated into a 4-6 minute (including opening and closing credits) video that is produced & submitted prior to the Sunday, October 15, 6 PM deadline.
Entry Fee is $20 per team. Teams must register by 9 PM, Tuesday, October 10, 2017.

“Best of Show: Amateur” = $288.00

“Viewers Choice: 1st Place” = $200.00
“Viewers Choice: 2nd Place” = $100.00

“Viewers Choice: Facebook” = $200.00
Additional recognition may be given to Best: Acting Performance, Use of Prop, Use of Dialogue, Use of Character, Use of Location and Use of Genre.
Each team is responsible for securing video production equipment to be used on the festival project. The resources of Public Media Network will be available for use by those teams that have a member certified to reserve and use PMN facilities and equipment (studio, camcorders, edit suites, laptops, microphones, light kits).
Video entries must be posted to YouTube, Vimeo, Google Drive, Dropbox (resolution of 480p or higher), burned to DVD, or given as a file. A video is considered submitted once it has been fully uploaded, and is available for viewing based upon the email notification generated when “sharing” video via email (to [email protected]) —this will be the “time stamp” for your submission. Submission can also be in the form of a DVD-video NTSC (must play on a conventional DVD player) or a file delivered to the PMN offices in downtown Kalamazoo. (DVD should be labeled with name of team and captain).
A panel of three independent judges will evaluate the entries based on a combination of effective incorporation of required production elements, technical execution, and overall merit. “Best of Show” winners will be announced and prizes awarded at the October 26 Premiere.
“Viewers Choice” winners will be determined by tallying unique votes for eligible videos as listed on the ballots distributed at the Cinema 2880 Premiere. Additionally, there will be a separate “Viewers Choice” vote on Public Media Network’s Cinema 2880 Facebook page. Facebook voting ends October 30 at Noon, with the winner announced by 4 PM.
Select Cinema 2880 Videos will be screened in Oct. 26, 2017 at 7 pm at the Kalamazoo 10. The event is free to the public!
The duration of the premiere shall not exceed two hours. As such, PMN cannot guarantee that all submissions will be screened at this venue. Preference will be given to the most qualified video entries (ie. 4-6 minutes long; effective incorporation of required production elements; etc.). ALL videos submitted will premiere on PMN channel 187 with plays on October 30 – November 2, as well as made available for online viewing at: pmn.viebit.com
